How Do I Get Involved in the Milwaukee Jewish Community?

January 24, 2018

As the Outreach Coordinator for the Milwaukee Jewish Federation I have the pleasure of working with a wide variety of people in our community that are looking to become involved in Jewish life in a new way. Whether I am grabbing coffee with newcomers to the city through Shalom Milwaukee, organizing playgroups for young families with new babies through Shalom Baby, or assisting families with applications for their first-time campers through One Happy Camper, every generation seems to be seeking more ways to “Go Jewish!”

As a relatively new member of the Milwaukee Jewish community myself, I understand that it can be intimidating and overwhelming to become involved in the Jewish life of a new city. Having the opportunity to help provide support and resources to other newly engaged members of the Milwaukee Jewish community has been an extremely rewarding experience, but I am constantly seeking ways to reach a wider audience, especially those that are unaffiliated and have yet to be immersed into our kehilah (community).

That is part of the reason why I am so excited and proud to be serving as the Educational Concierge on behalf of the GoJewish! initiative of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation. In my role as the educational concierge I look forward to providing educational consultations to families that are looking to explore the wide variety of options for their child’s Jewish education. In order to cast a wider net and reach more unaffiliated families, we are hosting the very first GoJewish! Fair, which will provide families of all levels of involvement with an opportunity to learn about all of the incredible Jewish educational programs our community has to offer.

Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with educational program directors and educators from overnight camps, day camps, day schools, preschools, youth groups, and synagogue schools directly, and acquire program information that will assist families in making informed decisions about the Jewish education choice that is right for their child. Attendees will also be entered into a drawing for a chance to win $100 credit towards the Jewish education program of their choice!

The GoJewish! Fair will be hosted on Sunday, January 28th from 2:00 – 4:30 pm at Nicolet High School (6701 N. Jean Nicolet Road, Glendale). The event is free and open to the entire community, we hope to see you there!
